The Hazard Perception Test is part of the Theory Test. After you have completed the multichoice question part of the test, the Hazard Perception element of the test will begin. You get 14 clips of film, with 15 hazards in total which you need to identify by clicking your mouse button at the appropriate time. The aim is not so much to identify every hazard but rather to identify the "developing hazard". This could be described as a hazard that is becoming more of a hazard and is requiring you to take action.
You can score a maximum of 5 points for each developing hazard, with a maximum of 75 marks for the test in total. The pass mark is 44 out of 75. You are expected to click more than once on any given clip of film but if you click too many times, or in a pattern that the programme thinks means that you are clicking randomly, then you will score nil for that particular hazard. You have to pass both parts of the test together.
The best way to learn for the Hazard Perception Test is to use the software produced under the title "Driving Test Success". Alternatively, the HMSO official hazard perception dvd, is helpful although doesn't give as many clips and is not so good if you want to test yourself. Although you may be very good at spotting hazards in real life driving, it is as well to practice doing some theory test video clips that will help prepare you for the test situation.
